AIR SUMMER 2019 GROUP EXHIBITION

BY THE CITY

“This is the future”, A digital sculpture speaks as if with its own humanities.

A Japanese technique of painting, requires the creator to remove its own subjective thinking, moving from abstract blobs to imaginary doodles. Stepping into the projection, light, where you loose all sense of reference to visual image, but becomes a  pixel lost in a spectrum of digitally manipulated colors. Finally you arrive at the live stage of a peaceful mobilization towards for a better tomorrow. Before leaving the grounds, an architect dares you to sit on an air-light stool made of hollow tubes, arranged in neat grids and planes.

Five artists, five countries, presented an experience never felt before for the audience. Breaking the narrow definition of art bonded by categories of art, sculpture, digital, new media. Art is the future, at least always maintains to be hours ahead. Art is the metaphor we live by, it is the mimesis, which intelligent lives, cross-pollinate ideas with action. Art is an action, in its most valuable measure.

By the city, as the exhibition title, meant to be a reaction and a catalyst towards the city we are living in, the city we love and the city we want to build together.  Are we going to be a bystander or tag along to cross path and to feel what belong in our future city. It is our choice. These works, when propagated by three themes, climate, technology and urban space, took to action, breaking perceptions, and kindly expressing the humanities inside each of them. Working side by side, they have cocreated a synthesis of dialogue, between these 5 works of art, it is hard not to compare and contrast them, for they are in one time and space. The richness, and intrigue, where one follows through the journey, and ultimately, arriving at themselves. Artists are white mirrors of their viewers, calling out for more humanities in this digital age of anthropocene, second-renaissance, technoutopianism, globalization...

SUMMER 2019 OPEN CALL

EXPLORE NEW

URBAN SPACE

Since the urbanization process on a global scale is a great trend nowadays, ‘urban space’ has become a very motivational topic in our current society under the rapid development of the economic. ‘Urban space’ is not only the public field with countless creation opportunities but could also be a catalyst of the urban vitality and the carrier of the urban culture.

With the aim of accomplishing the sustainable urban development, it is vital to grow a co-creation strategy with the goal of creating new urban spaces, as well as up-cycled urban space or parasitic architecture to decrease environmental pollution and protect the limited nature resources. BSBcore Stainless Slabs will be the main material provided for this residency program, as a response to the new urban space under climate change.

Explore New Urban Space, the residency open call for summer 2019, we invite artists, architects and designers from all over the world to reexamine the style of establishment and maintenance of spaces in cities, to discover the diverse innovations of the new urban space.
